HandBrake

Handbrake is a tool for DVD archiving that combines applications like “Mac the ripper” and “MPEG StreamClip” into one app. It uses a large set of opensource encoders that enable you to create MP4, MKV(with subs, multiple audio) AVI or OGM(also sub and audio tracks). The usage is very simple and it comes with allot of preset output configurations for popular devices (iPod, iPhone, appleTV, psp, ps3).

Caffeine

The effects of caffeine finally on your screen.
Watching full-screen video’s via Quicktime, DVD player, VLC or what so ever doesn’t make your screen fall asleep. But whenever you start watching movies online (YouTube, Vimeo) your screen dims within a minute or so and finally bails out. Darkness is staring you right in the face. Eventually you decide to wake it all up again to start over in 1 minute.

Annoying. Very annoying! Caffeine to the rescue! It does nothing more then keeping your screen awake for the amount of minutes you tell it to.

Skitch

Ever had to show somebody that little misplaced pixel? Or that line spacing on a specific element? You either had 2 choices; explain in about a thousand words, or make a screen-dump, open Photoshop, go ahead with some tools etc…

Anyhow… It sucked… And then there was Skitch, developed by Plasq (the same guys which made Comic Life). You can think of it as your own chalkboard/screenshot app. Whenever you make a screenshot you can make notes on it right away, resizing and cropping is as easy as resizing the window. Making screenshots was never this much fun and easy!

Synergy

As you probably noticed, I’m a huge iTunes fan. For a few years now I have been using YouControl to control my iTunes from the menu-bar so I didn’t have to swap back and forth to iTunes, but can directly access my main controls.

I was always enjoying the function, but didn’t really like the looks that YouControl had in my menu-bar. Via Boy I got the App Senergy that does almost the exact same as you control, only looks (in my opinion) a bit better.

Ok, so that’s mainly why I posted Synergy (who’s logo by the way is dead ugly, but hey, you won’t see that, so that’s fine).

iPodRip

Ok, backing up isn’t something we all love to do. I try to make a backup every now and then, and always pay much care to my music collection, since there’s a lot of hard work in there… But there are loads of people who don’t, buy a new computer, throw away the old one, attach their iPod and then come to the conclusion it isn’t possible to get your music back from your iPod. Well, for all those out there, there is a sweet solution called iPodRip. This nifty App allows you to attach your iPod, and send its music back into your computers’ iTunes.
